Change or not change

  WRITING TASK 2

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

  Write about the following topic:

Some people prefer to spend their lives doing the same things and avoiding change. Others, however, think that change is always a good thing.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

  Write at least 250 words.

This model has been prepared by an examiner as an example of a very good answer. However, please note that this is just one example out of many possible approaches.

Over the last half century the pace of change in the life of human beings has increased beyond our wildest expectations. This has been driven by technological and scientific breakthroughs that are changing the whole way we view the world on an almost daily basis. This means that change is not always a personal option, but an inescapable fact of life, and we need to constantly adapt to keep pace with it.

Those people who believe they have achieved some security by doing the same, familiar things are living in denial. Even when people believe they are resisting change themselves, they cannot stop the world around them from changing. Sooner or later they will find that the familiar jobs no longer exist, or that the ‘safe’ patterns of behaviour are no longer appropriate.

However, reaching the conclusion that change is inevitable is not the same as assuming that ‘change is always for the better’. Unfortunately, it is not always the case that new things are promoted because they have good impacts for the majority of people. A lot of innovations are made with the aim of making money for a few. This is because it is the rich and powerful people in our society who are able to impose changes (such as in working conditions or property developments) that are in their own interests.

In conclusion, I would say that change can be stimulating and energising for individuals when they pursue it themselves, but that all change, including that which is imposed on people, does not necessarily have good outcomes.

Some people prefer to spend their lives doing the same things and avoiding change. Others, however, think that change is always a good thing.

Over the last half century the pace of change in the life of human beings has increased beyond our wildest expectations.

  beyond 词组经常用到: beyond doubt 毋容置疑;

  beyond recognition 无可辨认;

  beyond expectations 不可想象;

This has been driven by technological and scientific breakthroughs that can changing the whole way we view the world on an almost daily basis.

这句话说明technological and scientific breakthroughs 产生了两个作用 drive this (the pace of change has increased); change the whole way we view the world, 很是狡猾

This means that change is not always a personal option, but an inescapable fact of life, and we need to constantly adapt to keep pace with it.

实际上开始接触到问题了,not a person option, but an inescapable fact of life的这句很有哲理,而且经常用到,大家记住

Those people who believe they have achieved some security by doing the same, familiar things are living in denial.

直接回答文章的问,those people are living in denial

in denial 介词短语,拒绝承认事实(refusing to admit the truth or reality of something unpleasant),举例a patient in denial about his health problems

Even when people believe they are resisting change themselves, they cannot stop the world around them from changing.

  When [conj]: although

Sooner or later they will find that the familiar jobs no longer exist, or that the ‘safe’ patterns of behavior are no longer appropriate.

接着解释 they will find that .. . that

However, reaching the conclusion that change is inevitable is not the same as assuming that ‘change is always for the better’.

A is not the same as B

  Reaching the conclusion对应assuming

Unfortunately, it is not always the case that news things are prompted because they have good impacts for the majority of people.

接着解释,it is not always the case, case指reality 事实

A lot of innovations are made with the aim of making money for a few. This is because it is the rich and powerful people in our society who are able to impose changes (such as in working conditions or property developments) that are in their interests.

  It is people who…that

Sth is in one’s interest 符合某人的利益, be in the public/national interest

In conclusion, I would say that change can be stimulating and energizing for individuals when they pursue it themselves, but that all change, including which is imposed on people, does not necessarily have good outcomes.

  I would say

  Pursue对应问中的avoid,not have good outcomes回答了第二问

  问题一:Some people prefer to spend their lives doing the same things and avoiding change. 世界是变化的,你只能使用变化,而非逃避变化;

Others think that change is always a good thing,变化有可能都是好事,有时也是坏事

In modern society, there are two types of lives. Some people like to lead a stable life, without change. Others prefer changing to static. Both kinds of people have their admittedly reasons to support themselves.

The ones who advocate steady life is comfortable give their points as follows. First of all, long-term of work can provide a reliable source of income. Changing jobs frequently maybe hard for a family to live comfortable. Secondly, movement of home is quite usual. This activity can cost you a great deal of finance to deal with this problem. Besides, shuttling among different kinds of job cannot make you gather the experience of a type of subject. Because you often change the way to face the subjects while changing your jobs. After few decades, you may still a freshman in your job.

On the contrary, audacious young people like changable life much better than the people above who are interested in steadly life. They are convinced that diversity of life is a treasure of our experience. When we grow more mature in considering questions. What's more, when we change our life styles, we indeed get a quality of how to adapt new life. According to the mental research, people who own adaption ability may hardly feel lonely, and the risk of develop psychologic illness can be dicreased. So changing lives can groom the qualities of youngsters.

For my part, I would like to share the last point of view. Because I am a young man now, so changing life is a good opportunity for the people like me to join into the society and develop the ability of adapting new life styles.
