Your professor is teaching a class on sociology. Write a post responding to the professor’s question.

Your professor is teaching a class on political science. Write a post responding to the professor's question一起来学习一下吧。

In your response, you should:

• express and support your personal opinion

• make a contribution to the discussion

An effective response will contain at least 100 words. You will have 10 minutes to write it.

Professor

As you know, city governments have a responsibility to improve the lives of residents. In today's class we're going to discuss the best way for them to do that. What strategy do you

think governments should use to improve the overall quality of life of residents?

Maria

I think investing in infrastructure should be the main priority for every local government. This could include things like repairing roads and bridges, expanding public transportation, and

improving access to clean water and sanitation. Good infrastructure can improve people's daily lives, make it easier to get around, and attract new businesses and residents to the

area. It can also prevent serious accidents and protect us from illnesses that damage our health.

Tom

While I agree that infrastructure is important, I think that social programs should also be a major focus. The government could invest in things like education, affordable housing, and

healthcare, which can help address issues like poverty, inequality, and access to basic needs. By providing these types of services, the government can help improve people's well-being. These are things that everyone benefits from … unlike a road which is only used by people who drive cars.

It is right for Maria to prioritize the investment infrastructure because this would benefit people in traveling and the overall health of citizens. Tom’s advocacy of some social programs is also reasonable. However, I believe that the government should put more effort in developing AI. With the widespread use of driverless cars, the incident of road accidents will be greatly reduced; with the widespread use of robot vacuum cleaners, housewives would free themselves from the tedious and repetitive household chores, and with the widespread use of surgical robots, the precision of operation can be improved. In a word, AI can contribute to improving the overall living standard of residents in different ways, so financially supporting AI is a wise decision for every local government.

Based on the rubric, I would rate the following sample answer with a score of 4 out of 5.

The sample answer contains several grammatical errors that can be fixed:

In the first sentence, "It is right for Maria to prioritize the investment infrastructure" should be corrected to "It is right for Maria to prioritize investing in infrastructure".

1. In the same sentence, "the overall health of citizens" should be corrected to "the overall health of the citizens".

2. In the third sentence, "However, I believe that the government should put more effort in developing AI" should be corrected to "However, I believe that the government should put more effort into developing AI".

3. In the same sentence, "the incident of road accidents" should be corrected to "the incidence of road accidents".

4. In the same sentence, "housewives would free themselves from the tedious and repetitive household chores" should be corrected to "people would free themselves from the tedious and repetitive household chores".

5. In the same sentence, "precision of operation can be improved" should be corrected to "the precision of operations can be improved".

6. In the last sentence, "financially supporting AI is a wise decision for every local government" should be corrected to "financially supporting AI would be a wise decision for every local government".

Here's the corrected text:

"It is right for Maria to prioritize investing in infrastructure because this would benefit people in traveling and the overall health of the citizens. Tom’s advocacy of some social programs is also reasonable. However, I believe that the government should put more effort into developing AI. With the widespread use of driverless cars, the incidence of road accidents will be greatly reduced; with the widespread use of robot vacuum cleaners, people would free themselves from the tedious and repetitive household chores, and with the widespread use of surgical robots, the precision of operations can be improved. In other words, AI can contribute to improving the overall living standard of residents in different ways, so financially supporting AI would be a wise decision for every local government."
