1. What do people enjoy doing when they visit rivers, lakes or the sea? Why do you think these activities are popular?
核心词汇fishing, swimming, sailing, scenery, relax
There are many water sports people enjoy doing when they visit rivers, lakes and seas, from swimming to diving, from surfing to water boarding. Anyway, most people love to see the sight of water. It is said to be able to heighten one’s spiritual perception.
I think that most people enjoy fishing, swimming, sailing or just sitting around and taking in the scenery, because all these activities are relaxing in one way or another. I personally think that most people just like to get away from the noise and pollution of big cities.
2. What benefits do you think people get from the activities they enjoy in the water?
核心词汇relax, relief from the noise, pollution and stress of living in mega cities
Well, it is really hard to say. I guess people all have different ideas. Some say that water activities help them to relax. Some say that they get excited by doing these activities. Whatever their views may be, water activities make me come close to nature and learn to appreciate the beauty of nature and be thankful for what God has done for us.
As I said before, I think that the biggest advantage they get from these activities is relief from the noise, pollution and stress of living in mega cities.
3. What are the different advantages of going to the sea or to a swimming pool to enjoy yourself? What do you think the disadvantages are?
核心词汇congestion, relative, peace, quiet, the brines, salt water, clean, surfing
Well, I don’t really know much of the differences of swimming in a pool and in a sea, except that some sea creatures are quite dangerous, such as sharks, jelly fish and sea snakes. I definitely don’t want to die so young. I haven’t got married yet.
Well, the obvious advantages of the sea over a swimming pool again would be the congestion of the pool over the relative peace and quiet at the sea. You also have to contend with the chemicals and other nasty fluids in pools whereas the ocean is for the most part natural and beneficial for your health and to be quite honest I don’t see any disadvantages in going to the sea other than the time it takes to get there.
4. How does water transport, like boats and ships, compare with other kinds? Are there any advantages/ disadvantages of water transport?
核心词汇truck, train, airplane, slower, cheaper
That’s a very good question. I’ve never thought about this question before, but the one and only disadvantage I can think of at the moment of water transport is that it is too slow. Look, I once asked my friend to send me some old books from Singapore. She used Sing Mail by sea. My goodness, it took more than two months to get Shanghai. I thought I was going to take forever. It is just too slow.
Water transport is obviously going to be slower than truck, train or airplane, but on the other hand, it is quite a cheap way of shipping goods. The majority of exports from China, for example, go by ship to save on costs. However, when you consider the number of goods that come from remote parts of China via water to Shanghai, and other ports, barges and small ships also play an important economic role in domestic trade.
5. How important is it for a town or city to be located near a river or the sea? Why?
核心词汇quantity, transport, benefit
To begin with, water is essentially important for all early human settlements. Our ancestors needed water to irrigate in agriculture, so most of those cities were located near a river or lake. As human civilization gradually progressed, water became used in industry, for example, rivers were used to drive mills and machines. Anyway, it was very important for a city to be located near water, but it has become less so as technology advances.
That would depend on whether or not the town or city was producing large quantities of goods that were to be transported elsewhere. Many of the towns and villages in China haven’t reached that point of development yet. There are many cities, though, such as Shanghai, that clearly benefit from being near a river or the sea.
6. Have there been any changes in the number of jobs available in fishing and water transport industries, do you think? Why do you think this is?
核心词汇development, industry, dockworkers, seafood
Well, I really don’t know much about this, because it is beyond my knowledge and it’s not my field of expertise. But look, I do hope there has been some change, because I don’t like the idea of unemployment, which often drives people to the edge of crime.
Yes, over the past 10 years the development of industry in China of both raw materials and finished products has risen exponentially and has necessitated a need for larger ports thereby creating more jobs of dockworkers and logistic companies. As for fishing, I don’t know much about that industry, but I would assume that there has also become a need for more seafood given the rise in popularity of tourism and foreign enterprises here now.
