Some people claim that schooling is no longer necessary, since more and more information is accessible, such as on the Internet. However, I do believe that the role of teacher is still essential in modern education.
Teachers used to be told what to teach, and how to teach it and they were expected to focus on equipping students with enough knowledge as the syllabus told. But in today's world of education, a teacher's role is quite multifaceted. Their job is to counsel students, help them learn how to use their knowledge and integrate it into their lives so they will be valuable members of society. That is because school is not only a platform to impart knowledge any more but also a stage to educate an individual about values and attitudes etc. Studying and living in an environment where students will be encouraged by their teachers and be accompanied by their peers benefits them in a way that no other method could compete so far. At school, students are more likely to know how to be themselves while fitting in a group, and to develop their critical thinking while learning to take advice from others.
it is true that the Internet is a master key to almost all the knowledge available. So a good understanding of computer technology will give students an edge in searching for and making use of the information for their studies. But when students are well exposed to ail kinds of information provided by the huge database of the Internet, it is the judgment they learn from teachers that helps them distinguish between the goodness and the evilness.
Therefore, while the digital age has had some good influence to the younger generation, when it comes to education, teachers are and will always be playing the leading role.
