　　Some people say that the only reason for learning a foreign language is in order to travel to or work in a foreign country. Others say that these are not the only reasons why someone should learn a foreign language. Discuss both these views and give your opinion.

　　b) 雅思写作范文 一 ：For most people in modern society learning another language opens doors for travel and work in the country, or countries, where that language is spoken. Having been born in China, we learn English from a very young age and many of us have the desire to study, and potentially work in the West, particularly the UK or the US. These opportunities were not available to my grandparents, or even my parents, so my generation should feel lucky to have them and not feel blas é in the learning and eventual use of such a useful new life skill.

　　There are still, however, a large number of people that although have the ability to speak a language other than their native tongue do not wish to leave their mother country, but instead are happy to use their language skills in the advancements of their own domestic career or maybe for international companies that wish to establish a base here.

　　In my opinion, as a young adult having learned English and wishing to experience the world and different cultures and all the opportunities that my second language might bring I believe, that it would be a huge mistake if I were not to spend at least some time abroad. This may not mean I will want to live in another country, but it does mean I have the opportunity to should I desire it. Gaining a wide range of life experience, I think, is crucial to becoming a well- rounded member of society in general.

　　对于现代社会的多数人来说，学习另外一门语言打开了去相应国家旅行或工作的大门。我们出生在中国的这些人，从很小的年纪就开始学英语，许多人都想去西方国家学习或工作，尤其是英国和美国。我的祖父母们就没有这样的机会，甚至我的父母也没有，所以我们这一代人应该为拥有这个机会感到高兴，对于学习和最终使用这种新的生活技能，不应感觉司空见惯。然而，还是有很多人虽然会说母语之外的语言，但并不想离开祖国，而很乐意运用他们的语言技能在国内的事业中取得进步，或者为想在那里建立分支机构的跨国公司工作。在我看来，作为一名学过英语的年轻人，并且愿意去环游世界，体验不同文化，抓住外语带来的机会，我相信如果不能去国外呆一段时间，那将是一个巨大的错误。我并不是说我想住在国外，而是说如果我愿意，我应该有作出选择的机会。我认为，拥有各种生活的经历，对于成为健全的社会成员来说是至关重要的。

　　c) 雅思写作范文 二： Some people believe that only if you intend to live, or work, in a foreign country should you bother to learn a second language, whereas others believe that this is not, and should not be, the sole reason. The following essay will discuss both sides of this argument. On the one hand, there is some merits to the belief that there is no particular point in learning a foreign language unless you are actually going to use it. This inevitably would mean at least visiting, at some point, the country where that language is used and possibly staying there for an extended amount of time. For example, it is believed that it would be a bit wasteful if you learn German and never actually go to Germany. On the other hand, learning a different language can be intellectually stimulating in its own right. It might not be possible for the learner to travel abroad for one reason or another, or the language might no longer be used. Latin or Sumerian would be examples of this. Some people believe, just because you may not be able to use a new language in its surroundings or speak it on a daily basis, it should not preclude anyone from learning it. In my opinion, I believe that although it can be enormously advantageous to anybody’ s future if they do learn their language and then travel to different countries, it is not the sole reason for doing so and the academic and personal development benefits, may be equally important.
