brusque

talking or behaving in a very direct, brief, and unfriendly way

adj.唐突的;直率的;无礼的

She asked for a cup of coffee and received a brusque reply:"we don't have any."

 

brutality

cruel, harsh, and usually violent treatment of another person

n.无情;残忍;暴行

The police were accused of brutality for using excessive force in making arrests.

 

burnished

smooth and shiny

adj. 铮亮的;光洁的

Most expect to make good money and burnish their curricula vitae.

 

burrow

to make a hole or tunnel in the ground by digging usually + into or under

cadre

frame, framework;a group of people having some unifying relationship

compassion

compassionate

feeling or showing concern for someone who is sick, hurt, poor, etc. : having or showing compassion
