　　Many students are taught to push themselves to try and be better than other students, rather than work together for everyone's benefits. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

　　Nowadays, schools aim at encouraging students to be more competitive instead of being cooperative. I think the advantages do not necessarily outweigh the disadvantages.

　　There are two advantages of making students compete with each other. Firstly, this would help students improve problem-solving skills through dealing with new challenges on their own. They would make attempts to figure out problems in better ways, rather than stay in their comfort zones and wait for others to find a solution. Secondly, creating a competitive environment can largely motivate students of all levels to keep learning and working hard to reach more goals. In other words, this prevents ordinary students from giving up on themselves and makes them realize that being competitive is a quality that can build up their perseverance.

　　In terms of the disadvantages, the main concern is that without knowing how to cooperate, students may find it difficult to adapt to work environment in the future because one-man team is less appreciated in many companies. Colleagues are likely to isolate those who are always trying to show how superior they are to others. Another disadvantageous factor is that students studying in a competitive atmosphere may accumulate much more pressure. For those who are poor at tackling stress, the stress may lead to insomnia or other health problems, which will negatively affect their attitudes towards learning.

　　To conclude, training students to be competitive is beneficial for all students' long-term development in their academic studies. However, it could become disadvantageous when schools only focus on teaching competition and largely ignore the importance of cooperation.
