今天我们来讲一些和疾病相关的词汇，并且一起看看他们在考试中的用法~

1. incubate /'ɪŋkjʊbeɪt/

a.使(病毒)潜伏;

e.g. The virus can incubate for up to ten days after the initial infection. 病毒在初次感染以后可以潜伏长达 10 天。

b.孵化;孵卵;

Condors incubate only one egg and raise one chick at a time.

注：condor 美洲秃鹫

n. incubation 孵化

n. incubator 孵化器;(细菌)培养器

注：spawn (鱼、蛙等)产卵;

2. respiratory

adj. 呼吸的;

e.g. respiratory diseases/infections 呼吸道疾病/ 感染

e.g. Most people who get sick with COVID-19 will develop mild to moderate respiratory symptoms. 大多数感染COVID-19的人会出现轻度至中度呼吸道症状。

阅读真题 4-1-2：Those suffering from respiratory complaints represent 7% of their patients, and candida sufferers represent an equal percentage. 呼吸系统疾病患者和假丝酵母过敏者各占7%。

3. contagious /kən'teɪdʒəs/

a.adj. 病接触传染的

阅读真题 15-1-1：At the same time, thousands of people across Europe were dying of the plague, a highly contagious and deadly disease. 与此同时，欧洲各地成千上万的人死于瘟疫，这是一种高度传染性和致命的疾病。

b.adj. (感情、态度等)感染性的，

e.g. His enthusiasm was contagious. 他的热情很有感染力

e.g. She has a contagious smile. 她的笑容很有感染力。

4. vaccine /'væksiːn/

n. 疫苗;

e.g. The vaccine is used to protect people against polio.

注：polio 脊髓灰质炎，即小儿麻痹症

v. vaccinate

be vaccinated against: 给…接种疫苗防治

e.g. Those above 50 and people with chronic diseases will be vaccinated against Covid-19.

注：chronic disease 慢性病

e.g. Most side effects from vaccination are mild, such as soreness, swelling, or redness at the injection site.
