Your professor is teaching a class on marketing. Write a post responding to the professor's question.
Your professor is teaching a class on marketing. Write a post responding to the professor's question.

Professor
Today, we're discussing the ethics of targeted advertising. Some people argue that online advertising which uses personal information to target specific people is an invasion of privacy. Others argue that it's simply an acceptable way to reach consumers with products and services they're interested in. What's your take? Do you think targeted advertising is ethical, or is it an invasion of privacy?
Jessica
I think targeted advertising is an invasion of privacy. Advertisers shouldn't be able to track and use our personal information to sell us products. It's not fair to consumers, and it's a violation of our rights. Instead, advertisers should focus on creating high-quality ads that appeal to a broad audience.
Mike
I disagree with Jessica. I think targeted advertising is ethical. It's a more efficient way to reach consumers with products and services that are relevant to their interests. Plus, consumers can always opt-out of targeted advertising by adjusting their privacy settings. As long as advertisers give users a choice, I think targeted advertising can be beneficial for both businesses and consumers.
I refuse to countenance the view that targeted advertising is ethical. The fundamental reason for a detrimental impact is that when the platform gleans user behavior data without users’ permission, the user's privacy has been divulged. In fact, not only does the infringement of privacy exert a baneful impact on advertising effectiveness, but also it induces certain psychological repulsion to customers. In the era of information explosion, the information flow itself will penetrate into every nook and cranny of our own life, which inevitably sways people's psychology. Imagine, some audiences, if provided certain advertising to lure them to purchase by calling them directly, will feel unsettled, and psychological problems such as anxiety, restlessness and aversion will occur because they will treat these endless targeted advertising as nuisance. It is a commonplace that nowadays, many people, who receive the strange calls of targeted advertising out of blue when working, will subconsciously block the targeted advertising the moment certain ads appear on our phone, which is the sufficient evidence manifesting the apparent loath to the targeted advertising and it is out of question an unethical way of disseminating behavior.
Based on the rubric, I would rate the following sample answer with a score of 4 out of 5.
There are a few grammatical errors, such as "gleans" instead of "gathers" or "collects," and "exert" instead of "exerts." Additionally, there are a few awkward phrasings, such as "I refuse
to countenance the view" instead of simply saying "I believe" or "I think." Despite these errors, the response is still well-written and makes a clear and persuasive argument.
