Your professor is teaching a class on life science. Write a post responding to the professor’s question
Your professor is teaching a class on life science. Write a post responding to the professor’s question一起来学习一下吧。

Dr Gupta
As medical technology and advancements in healthcare continue to improve, the average life expectancy in developed countries is steadily increasing. However, with this increase in
life expectancy comes a range of potential problems that can affect both individuals and society as a whole. What are some of the issues that might arise from this trend?
Tom
While it's certainly a positive thing that people are living longer, this trend presents a number of challenges for individuals and society as a whole. One major problem is that an aging
population places a greater burden on healthcare systems, as older people tend to require more medical attention and treatment.
Jerry
I disagree with Tom. It is important to acknowledge the benefits of longer life expectancy. An aging population can also lead to greater wisdom, knowledge, and experience. Advances in
technology and medicine may help reduce some of the burdens associated with an aging population.
I totally agree with Tom's statement that increased longevity of people could bring a great many challenges for public and society as a whole, such as imposing a huge burden on
healthcare system. Moreover, I'd add that this phenomenon has created tremendous pressure on government finance. To be more specific, faced with a rising number of senior
people, governments have to allocate a large amount of budget to some areas, including personal insurance, medical expenses or pension and so forth, which means funding
invested in other realms might decrease. For example, in Japanese government's annual budget for 2023, as much as 36.8 trillion yen is set aside to deal with the increasingly serious
aging problem. Consequently, the budgets of some other areas, like education, national defense or public construction, are likely to be reduced accordingly, considering
government's annual revenue. Regarding Jerry's point, life extension does bring greater wisdom, knowledge and experience. Nevertheless, with the society developing in an
accelerating rate, the merits they possess, to a certain extent, might be outdated and not suitable for what is currently happening. Therefore, I think longer lives would give rise to
more problems.
Based on the rubric, I would rate the following sample answer with a score of 4 out of 5.
1. The writer has a few grammatical errors, such as missing articles ("a rising number of senior people" instead of "the rising number of senior people"), and incorrect verb tense
("have to allocate" instead of "has to allocate" to agree with "government").
2. The writer could benefit from clearer organization and transition between their ideas, as some of the points seem disconnected.
