Task1
Question
Talk about a special gift you once gave someone. Describe the gift and explain why it was special.
示例回答:
One special gift I gave to my boyfriend was a bronze ring from his favorite movie, the Lord of the Rings. It looks exactly like the ring showed in the movie, with the words ‘one ring controls them all’ engraved on, and fits perfectly on his index finger. The reason why I picked it up for his birthday was that he loves this movie series so much and every time, to be honest, for real every time when we are wandering in the mall, he would visit every jewelry shop to look for the similar ring. And he even wishes to have our wedding ring engraved with the same words on. He’s cute, right? So when I gave this ring to him, he started to wear it every time we went out for our date! Isn’t it so special?
Task2
Question
When some people have a little extra money, they like to spend it right away on something they enjoy. Others prefer to save the extra money. Which do you like to do? Explain why.
示例回答:
I will definitely save it up, because this money could promise my life standard even though I will have a big cost. For example, before my marriage, I used to spend all of my salary for fun. I love traveling so usually I planned 3 or 4 trips a year. But, when one day I considered buying my own apartment and getting into marriage, I found nothing from my bank savings. I felt myself in total despair. So I loaned a lot of money from the bank. And ever since then, my life changed. I began to work very hard, cut all my travel plans, and save every extra penny for my savings. What a painful experience!
Task3
University Announces Energy-Saving Plan
Out of concern for the environment, the university has announced an effort to reduce energy consumption. The energy saving measures will start at the library. One measure involves the library’s inside lighting: new overhead lights that use less power will be installed throughout the building. Another measure has to do with the temperature level in the library. The air-conditioning will be reduced on hot days, meaning that study areas will be kept somewhat warmer when it is hot outside.
Question:
The woman expresses her opinion of the university's plan. State her opinion and explain the reasons she gives for holding that opinion.

Task4
Chaining Behavior
Many everyday human behaviors are made up of a sequence of several simpler behaviors. In order to teach children to perform these complex behaviors, parents sometimes use a technique called chaining. First, parents identify each of the simpler component behaviors and determine the order in which these simpler behaviors are performed. Parents then start with the first task in the chain. When the child has mastered that element, parents then teach the second element together with the first and reinforce this effort. When these are performed satisfactorily, they move on to elements one, two, and three and so on, adding one behavior at a time. The behaviors are not taught in isolation; hence the term “chain.”
Question:
Using the example of washing hands, explain the concept of chaining behavior.

Task5
Question:
Briefly summarize the man's problem. Then state which solution you would recommend. Explain the reasons for your recommendation.
示例回答:
The man is facing a problem that he is expected to wear a suit attending tomorrow morning’s interview, but unfortunately he forgot his suit at his parents’ house. However, he has two solutions. He could either borrow his roommate’s suit, or buy another new suit from the store. Well, if I were him, I would choose the second one. Because if he worries about the money he saved for a bike, he could borrow some from his parents or friends, and then after the interview he would have the chance taking some part-time jobs to pay the money back. Besides, he really wants to pass the interview, but his roommate's looks too baggy on him, it won’t be nice.
Task6
Question:
Using points and the examples from the talk, explain two ways of preventing food spoilage and why they are effective.
示例回答:
Food spoilage is caused by bacteria and the two key factors to prevent food from going bad is temperature and moisture.
First, controlling the temperature can slow down the growth of bacteria, so food can be stored for longer time in cooler environment. For example, the fresh fish can be kept for months if being frozen, but they will go bad very quickly under the sun in warm days. Because the low temperature drastically slows down the growth of bacteria.
Plus, moisture is another factor to control. Food high in water content will go bad more quickly, because the moisture offers the bacteria necessary supplies to grow. For example, the liquid milk spoils quickly than the powered milk. Because the water has been removed from the powered milk, and without moisture, bacteria can’t grow.
