With more TV channels available, people can watch a larger variety of programs than before. This seems to be good to TV viewers, but some people think that because of this, the quality of programs declines rather than improves.
Compared with several decades ago, people more choices about how to spend their leisure time and watching TV is no exception. They can switch the channel if they find the program not interesting and then choose their favorite ones. Those sports fans can watch sports programs 24 hours a day as long as they want and similarly, those who adore popular stars can watch entertainment programs any time. Undoubtedly, this can enrich people's lives and make the experience of watching TV more enjoyable.
However, some people think otherwise and they believe that more TV channels may lead to the decline of programs' quality. The production of TV programs requires time, fund and personnel, but every year, the fund invested in the production of programs is limited. Also, the number of specialists qualified for TV production is unlikely to meet the increasing demand of TV industry. Under such circumstances, it is difficult to control the quality of TV programs and some poorly-produced programs may be broadcasted .
In my opinion, more TV channels means more competition between TV stations, which would motivate them to improve the quality of their programs for the purpose of increasing audience ratings. Although some poor quality programs may be produced for some reasons, this trend can promote the development of TV industry in the long term.
