1.What things are important when people are choosing a hotel?
参考答案
I suppose there are many factors people think about when they choose a hotel. For me,the first thing I look for is location. Is it near to where I want to go? Secondly name.I mean the brand of the hotel. If it's not a brand I know,I'd think twice abourt staying there. There are probably other things that people think of, but that's the top two for me.
2. Why do some people not like staying in hotels?
参考答案
In my experience because many cheaper hotels around the world can be a bit clinical (简陋的).So,they look the same as any other hotel and only have the most basic facilities. Companies like the Best Western in the US,or Travelodge in the UK would be examples.I think those who may travel a lot might want something a bit more personal,so they opt for a B&B(带早餐的旅店).
3. Do you think staying in a luxury hotel is a waste of money?
参考答案
No,definitely not. I am very much a creature of comfort. If I travel, whether it's for business or pleasure,I do not scrimp (节俭) on the hotel. For me,I end up working in the room 'til quite late at night sometimes, and I want to be comfortable.I can understand why some people may think that it's a waste, but to me it's not.
4. Do you think hotel work is a good career for life?
参考答案
No,actually I don't. When I was a bit younger, I worked for a hotel in Korea as a waiter over the summer.I lived on site and it was a good opportunity for me to learn a different language. I suppose being at the bottom of the ladder, the dogsbody(勤杂工)if you will, I had to work long hours and could get quite dirty cleaning up the tables etc. Maybe if you're higher up the food chain, it's better, but for the regular staff, not so much.
5.How does working in a big hotel compare with working in a small hotel?
参考答案
Well, like I said,I have worked in a smaller hotel. It was a chain of two, so small in name as well as size. It only contained about 30 rooms for guests. I suppose working for a bigger one would be a little less personal. For me, I knew all the other staff there as we quite often had meals together, which was nice even though I didn't always get on with them.I would also say that there's probably more to clean up in a bigger hotel,so the hours might be longer.
6. What skills are needed to be a successful hotel manager?
参考答案
For a start, the ability to work long hours without sleep and not mind working night参考答案 shifts.Secondly,I would assume they need fantastic organizational skills, you know, to manage all the different departments and the problems they have.I'd doubt that the issues that the F&B department have are going to be the same as Housekeeping, for example.
