1.How interested are most people in your country in science?
参考答案
I bonesty couldn't tell you.I know that Chinese are generally good at Maths and that we are geting more and more interested in Space, certainly, since we landed our Jade Rabbit on the far side of the moon. So, maybe the answer is Yes, but I wouldni't be able to say for sure. I'd like to hope so, I sure would.
2.Why do you think children today might be better at science than their parents?
参考答案
Actually it's one of the things I've often thought about.I think it's basically because as our knowledge of science grows the more of it feeds down to the children. For example, around 100 years ago we didn't have flight, and only just had motor cars. Now, kids in school are learning about aerodynamics and combustion which their grandparents could only dream about. I think this trend will continue into the foreseeable future.
3. How do you suggest the public can learn more about scientific developments?
参考答案
I think these days social media is incredibly prolific and is a very good way to disseminate information. And then there's the obvious; TV, Radio, you know all the traditional mass media.I think also if there are more programmes like the one I
spoke about earlier, there would be more excitement about science and people would spread the information by word of mouth.
4. What do you think are the most important scientific discoveries in the last 100 years?
参考答案
Well, where do I start, there have been so many. I think, for me, the most important invention of the last century has got to be the Internet. It has brought so many people together by improving the way that we communicate. Not only have we
fundamentally made letters obsolete but also we have got to the point of being able to have video calls and conferences between countries that are literally on opposite sides of the globe.
5. Do you agree or disagree that there are no more major scientific discoveries left to make?
参考答案
Oh,disagree, definitely! I don't think we've even scratched the surface of all that we could know.Take 'Dark Matter' for example, people have theorised that we can only see 20% of the universe which means that there's 80% that we can't. That's what the world scientists are calling 'Dark Matter', At the moment, we can't even detect it, let
alone know how it works so, just in this field there's a long way to go.
6. Who should pay for scientific research-governments or private companies?
参考答案
Personally,I think it should be both. I think that governments should be in control of it,but that companies should be allowed to perform research and push the boundaries of our current knowledge.Fundamentally, science,I believe, is for the
people and should therefore not be given over for purely private profit. It should be shared for the benefit of everyone.
