  Science Vocabulary

  Science is such a vast subject matter that pretty much covers every aspect of our lives; so, everything you may ever learn or know may be included in the science vocabulary. In fact, the definition of science is "the state or fact of knowledge." Below are some specific scientific vocabulary words to get you started towards expanding your knowledge of some popular sciences.

  科学是如此宽泛的话题,它覆盖了我们生活的方方面面,所以,你以前所学或所了解的都有可能包含在科学的范畴之内。事实上,科学的定义就是知识的本质。下面给大家介绍一些大众学科的名字。

  其实有很多词汇都是通过一些词根,前缀,后缀组合而成,结合记忆会更加方便。

  Aerobiology – 空气生物学 (aero+biology)

  The study of organic particles that are transported by the air. It is also branch of biology.

  Amphibian – 两栖动物

  a type of vertebrate that lives a portion of its life in water and another part on land.

  Astronomy – 天文学

  the scientific study of heavenly bodies

  Atmosphere –大气层

  the blanket of gases surrounding the earth.

  Bacteria – 细菌

  one-celled living organisms. They have no nucleus in their cells

  Biology – 生物学

  the scientific study of living things

  Botany – 植物学

  the scientific study of plants

  Cardiology –心脏学

  the scientific study of the heart

  Carbon cycle – 碳循环

  the constant exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen among living things

  Carnivore – 食肉动物

  an organism that eats other animals

  Cell – 细胞

  The smallest unit of living matter

  Climate –气候

  The prevailing weather conditions of a region.

  Dermatology -皮肤学

  the scientific study of the skin

  Earthquake – 地震

  the shaking of the earth’s crust and mantle

  Ecosystem – 生态系统

  the group of living and non-living things in an environment.

  Electricity –电

  a form of energy produced from the active energies of wind, water, oil, or coal.

  Embryology – 胚胎学

  the scientific study of embryos

  Erosion – 侵蚀

  the weathering away of rock pieces.

  Evaporation - 蒸汽

  The process by which a liquid changes into a gas

  Evolution – 进化

  a change in a population’s gene pool from one generation to another generation by such processes such as natural selection, mutation, and genetic drift.

  Galaxy – 银河系

  a collection of stars

  Gravity – 重力

  the pull of the earth

  Geology – 地质学

  the scientific study of the earth

  Habitat – 栖息地

  the place where an animal or plant resides and grows.

  Hematology – 血液学

  The scientific study of the blood

  Herbivore – 食草动物

  an organism that eats plants and other producers

  Hibernate – 冬眠

  to enter into a deep sleep or dormant condition during the winter

  Humus – 腐殖质

  a decayed animal or plant in the soil

  Hurricane – 飓风

  a large storm with a low pressure at its center

  Immunology – 免疫学

  the scientific study of the immune system

  Invertebrate –无脊椎动物

  an animal without a backbone

  Lunar Eclipse – 月食

  the covering of the moon as it passes through the earth’s shadow.

  Mammal – 哺乳动物

  a warm-blooded vertebrate

  Meteorite – 陨石,流星

  a mass of stone from space and hits the surface of the moon or earth.

  Meteorology – 气象学

  the scientific study of the weather

  Microbiology – 微生物学

  the scientific study of micro-organisms

  Oceanology – 海洋学

  the scientific study of oceans

  Omnivore – 杂食动物

  an organism that eats both animals and plants

  Opthalmology – 眼科学

  the scientific study of the eyes

  Ornithology – 鸟类学

  the scientific study of birds

  Parasitism – 寄生状态

  a relationship in which an organism lives in other organism and benefits from that relationship. The other organism is harmed.

  Parasitology - 寄生学

  the scientific study of parasites

  Photosynthesis – 光合作用

  the food-making process of plants

  Physiology – 生理学

  the scientific study of the functions of living organisms

  Pollution – 污染

  harmful substances found in land, water, or air

  Precipitation –沉淀

  water particles that fall from the atmosphere and reach the earth’s surface

  Psychology -心理学

  the scientific study of mental processes in living creatures

  Planet – 地球

  a heavenly body revolving around the sun

  Reptile – 爬行动物

  A vertebrate with thick and dry skin. They are egg-laying organisms.

  Sexology – 性学

  the scientific study of sex

  Star – 星星

  a self-luminous heavenly body

  Solar Eclipse – 日食

  the covering of the sun when the moon passes between the sun and the earth

  Solar System – 太阳系

  the group that comprises the sun and the objects that are revolving around it

  Symbiosis – 共生状态

  a relationship between two organisms that persists over time

  Tocology – 产科学

  the scientific study of childbirth

  Tornado – 龙卷风

  a violent storm of whirling wind that travels across a narrow path in the ground

  Toxicology – 毒理学

  the scientific study of poisons

  Vertebrate – 脊椎动物

  an animal with a backbone

  Volcano – 火山

  an opening in the earth’s surface where lave flows out.

  Water Cycle – 水循环

  the movement of water from the earth to the air, and back to the earth’s surface.

  Weathering – 风化作用

  the process of breaking down of rocks into smaller pieces and particles.

  Zoology – 动物学

  the scientific study of animals.
