1.advent /'ædvɛnt/ n.到来，出现

记忆词根：ad+vent(来)---到来，出现

搭配：the advent of sth. …的到来

例：Sea ports have been transformed by the advent of powered vessels, whose size and sraught have increased.

adventitious(偶然发生的，非计划中的...)

2. beware /bɪ'weə/ V.谨防，当心

例：There are some venomous snakes to beware of in this area.

该地区有毒蛇，要小心。

3. celestial/sə'lɛstʃəl/ a.天体的，天上的

词根记忆： cel(天空)+est+ial---天体的

例：The moon and the galaxy are all celestial bodies.

月亮和银河都是天体。

4. circumstance /ˈsɝkəmˌstəns/ n.环境;境况，情况

词根记忆： circum(周围)+st(站)+ ance---站在周围的事物---环境

搭配：in/under…circumstance在…环境下; in/under no circumstances在任何环境下都不

例： In social circumstances, dress has often been used as a sign of professional role.

在社交圈内，服装通常被看作是某种职业角色的标志。

5. circumscribe /'sɜːkəmskraɪb/ vt.在…周围划线;限制

词根记忆：circum(周围)+scribe(画)---画地为牢---限制

例：The power of the monarchy was severely circumscribed by the newlypromulgated laws.

新颁布的法律严格限制了君主的权力。

6. painstaking /'penztekɪŋ/ a.需细心的，辛苦的，煞费苦心的;勤勉的，刻苦的 n. 辛苦，勤勉，刻苦

组合词：pains(痛苦)+taking(花费…的)---煞费苦心的

Work with painstaking尽心地工作

例：It is a painstaking task of interpretation, so that we come to understand what these things mean for the human story.诠释工作需要非常细心，这样我们才能了解这些事情对人类历史意味着什么。

7. pamphlet /ˈpæmflɪt/ n. 小册子

例：The pamphlet was regarded as a masterpiece of wit.这本小册子被看作智慧的杰作。

8. predominant /prɪ'dɑmənənt/ a. 卓越的。突出的;支配的，主要的，盛行的

联想记忆： pre(在…前面)+dominant(统治的)----在前面统治的---支配的

例：Singers have a predominant role in this performance.歌手在这场表演中担任主要角色。

9. preface /ˈpref.ɪs/ n.序言，引言 vt.为…写序言，以…以开端

例:I won’t delay you by a long preface.我的开场白不会很长，免得耽误你们的时间。

10. remuneration /rɪ,mjuːnə'reɪʃ(ə)n/ n.报酬

例：To meet the requirements of public interest, the investment of the investors could be expropriated in comply with legal procedure with a due remuneration.为了满足公共利益的需求，可以按照法律程序没收投资者的投资，并给予相应报酬。
